The gusto24 winner is Samantha Buholzer!

For 14 years, we are with Kai partner of the gusto apprentice cooking competition. In an exciting final ceremony, Samantha Buholzer impressed the jury the most and won "gusto24"! She succeeds Angela Künzler, winner of "gusto23". Congratulations also to second place winner Maria Elle Stähli and third-placed Yaëlle Brand and to the 3 male finalists for their impressive final cooking of and lots of fun with their sknife knife bag with Shun knives and sknife knife sharpener.

Angela Künzler gewinnt «gusto23»!

Angela Künzler came out on top at the "gusto23" cooking competition among the nine young cooking talents. The 17-year-old is in her second year of training at the Panorama Hartlisberg restaurant in Steffisburg. Michelle Beganovic from the Cantonal Hospital in Olten came second, and Aisha Kelesoglou from the Bürgerasyl-Pfrundhaus in Zurich came third. Sven Epiney and Mélanie Freymond hosted the award ceremony at the Montreux Congress Centre. The "gusto" always serves as a springboard for successful cooking careers in the Culinary Junior National team and Culinary National team, which we support with Kai and sknife respectively. The 9 finalists were delighted to receive the sknife knife bag with Kai Shun knives and practical kitchen accessories.

Fynn Thielen from The Dolder Grand Best Chef Apprentice 2022

In a 3-hour cooking competition, the nine finalists of gusto22, the Swiss championship for apprentice chefs, demonstrated their skills in front of a jury of experts. In the end, Fynn Thielen from The Dolder Grand came out on top and was crowned the "gusto22" winner at the festive gala. Athina Karavouzi from the Park Hyatt came second, and Luca Heiniger from the Panorama Hartlisberg restaurant came third. For 12 years, we have been accompanying with Kai as partner of gusto apprentice chefs on their way, which often leads to the Culinary Junior National team and later the Swiss Culinary National team. The 9 finalists were presented with a sknife knife bag equipped with 4 Shun Classic White knives and all participants with a Wasabi knife. By the way: for apprentice cooks, the knife bag Shun is available at preferential conditions.

gusto2021: Dalila Zambelli is the lucky winner

Congratulations to the three first place winners from "gusto21" Dalila Zambelli, Seline Grossenbacher und Luca Heiniger, and of course also to the other six finalists. You all did a great job under special conditions! The 9 finalists were presented with a sknife knife bag equipped with 4 Shun Classic white knives and all participants with a Wasabi knife with a sknife drawer insert.

Laura Loosli wins the gusto19

Nine apprentice chefs cooked for victory in the Swiss apprentice chef competition "gusto19". In the end, Laura Loosli from the Panorama Hartlisberg restaurant in Steffisburg won the cooking competition. Yanik Hartmann from Seepark Thun came in second and Manuel Hofer from the Stadtspital Triemli in Zurich was third. The 9 finalists were presented with a sknife knife bag equipped with 4 Shun knives and all participants with a Wasabi knife.

Lukas Heller from Hotel Schönbühl is gusto18 winner

9 apprentice chefs in their 2nd & 3rd year prepared their menu creations live in front of an expert jury in the gusto18 final, with Lukas Heller from Hotel Schönbühl Hilterfingen being the most convincing. Stefanie Steiner from Gasthof Löwen Bubikon came in 2nd place. Third place went to Timo Rechsteiner from Inselspital Bern. The 9 finalists were presented with a sknife knife bag equipped with 4 Shun knives and all participants with a Wasabi knife.

Léo Turin wins gusto17

The best Swiss apprentice chef is called Léo Turin and is in his 3rd year of apprenticeship at the Restaurant du Théâtre in Monthey. In an exciting 3-hour cooking competition on the theme of "completely original", he prevailed against eight other talented cooks. Second place went to Corina Trachsel and third to Julie Hohl. Léo Turin's starter: Organic Swiss chicken breast with timbale of macaroni and morels, broccoli emulsion and chessboard of chicken leg and mimosa. Main course: Pork fillet with raw ham and stale bread, braséed pork cheek with potato spuma, onions and asparagus. At the gala hosted by Sven Epiney at the Hotel Seedamm Plaza, the 9 finalists were presented with a sknife knife bag and once again all those who had sent in a menu according to the competition requirements received a Shun knife.

The finalists of the gusto 17 have been determined!

They are already among the best cookery students in Switzerland: Nine young cooking talents have reached the final of "gusto17" with their menu creation. On 30.3.2017, the nine finalists will cook for victory in a cooking competition.

gusto16 winner is Silvan Oswald

Nine young cooking talents competed on 17.3.16 and convinced the jury with their craftsmanship. Silvan Oswald from the Hotel & Gastro formation Weggis was able to convince the jury the most. Second place went to Benjamin Anderegg from Restaurant Stucki Basel, and third place went to Fabienne Zuberbühler from Rehaklinik Bellikon. All finalists received a sknife knife bag equipped with Kai Shun damask knives (which were also used in the cooking competition).

Nine young cooking talents – equipped with Kai Shun knives –- competed at gusto15 on March12, 2015. The jury was most impressed by gusto15 winner Lukas Kaufmann from the Waldhaus Flims Mountain Resort. Sara Gruosso from the Inselspital Bern came in second and Corinne Heussi from the Gasthof Löwen in Bubikon achieved the third place. But the other 6 finalists did not go away empty-handed either and also received a Kai Shun knife bag with engraved Shun knives as a prize.

On 13 March, nine young cooking talents cooked for three hours for the big win at gusto14, which celebrated its 10th anniversary this year. The winner of gusto14 was Daniel Duerr from the REHA Klinik Bellikon, who is already facing the next challenge: he will travel to the first international edition in Paris. Second place went to Lina de Simoni and third place to Matthias Fehr. All finalists received a Kai Shun knife case.

Thomas Habegger wins the gusto13

Thomas Habegger, apprentice in the 3rd year at the rehab clinic Bellikon, convinced the jury on the 8th of march 2013 with his main course and his dessert. In the framework of a gala at the Kursaal in Bern, the 9 gusto13 finalists have been celebrated. The numerous guests of Swiss gastronomy have been hosted by Sven Epiney. KAI supports as sponsor the gusto13 finalists. Gusto can be a good spring board to get into the Swiss Culinary Junior National team or into the Swiss Culinary National team. We wish a lot of success to the winner and the other participants.
